Welcome to Mama Reds Not Fancy Plants

Mama Reds Not Fancy Plants is a small one woman owned business in Western New York. I’m Tameron (AKA: Mama Red) the owner and it’s such a pleasure for me to be able to share this site with you.

As I'm sure you can tell by the name, I have a sense of humor and can be quite the sassy pants but never a fancy pants! :) but it's all in good fun. I enjoy making people laugh and I want to show others that you can have beautiful, healthy, easy to grow houseplants without spending a fortune. I see so many influencers and companies pushing these ridiculously expensive houseplants. A lot of people get sucked into the plant trends only to be disappointed and give up when they lose their plant and tons of money. I have nothing against these people or companies and I understand there's a need for it. There's many collectors out there in the plant world. But the average person doesn't want to spend a lot of money on a plant and risk it dying. Especially beginners!

I have a long story on how the name came to be and maybe I'll share that in a blog post at some point. But I love the play on words and my grandmother always used to joke around when I was younger and tell me not to be a "fancy pants". I'm actually the complete opposite, I was the little red headed tomboy. And of course there's Lucille in "Fancy Pants" the movie :)

On a more serious note... Heritage, Heirloom, Non-GMO, Open-Pollinated, Sustainable. Those are all terms that are very important to me. I created this online shop and blog to share my passions and knowledge with you. I want to help you be successful with your houseplants and in your gardens.

I collect houseplants, seeds, breed poultry, tend to my gardens, hang out with my Great Pyrenees, Australian Shepherd, German Shepherd, my three cats, chickens, quail and try to live in balance with nature as much as I can. I do all this on my ten acre (farm/homestead) Farmstead! I love canning, dehydrating, prepping, homesteading, enjoying the vegetables I grow and using herbs. I’m also a single mother to three boys, so I know how important it is to grow and utilize your own food and herbs, especially with these trying times we’re currently experiencing. I’m always trying and learning new techniques to become more self sufficient. I continue to work towards sustainability every single day!

I strive to make sure my customers always have a good experience. If my customers are happy, then that’s what allows me continue to do this!

To all of my friends, family and customers who have supported me and helped my shop grow, thank you! I truly appreciate you! 💕

Mama Red

I LOVE growing things inside and outside! It's a passion that I've had since I was a child helping my grandfather on the farm (he was a commercial potato farmer) and my grandmother in her beautiful flower beds and her vegetable and herb gardens.

My Team

Bella & Willow

These two girls are my sidekicks and think they're great “Supervisors”. They oversee and run everything around here, including their younger brother Ryder plus the three cats! It's a real circus around here :)

And don’t worry… the girls get lots of treats, scratchies, belly rubs, head pats and attention while their “on duty”.
